Dabangg 2 will be shot in Kashmir
Salman Khan has convinced brother Arbaaz Khan to have the second schedule of Dabangg 2 in the scenic locales of Kashmir.
A unit source said, "After having completed a major portion of shooting of the sequel in Mumbai, the second schedule was to be at a location somewhere abroad. Arbaaz was keen to shoot at a place in the Middle East. But Salman insisted otherwise. He felt that it made more sense to shoot the film in Kashmir as it would also give the place a boost in tourism. Also, he realised it was economically a better option."
In the recent past Imitiaz Ali shot major portions of Rockstar in the state and adjoining areas and the footage looked incredible on screen as per a TOI report. Buzz is that Arbaaz has agreed and the unit will soon plan a rece to the state and finalise locations.

High air fares to Kashmir anger tourism dept, industry The air fares were "substantially high" and continuing to rise, even touching Rs 17,000 one way between Delhi and Srinagar which was more than that between Delhi and Malaysia or Singapore: Tourism Director.

Jammu and Kashmir tourism department and industry are angry at "high" air fares on Kashmir circuit, fearing that this would destroy the state's tourism season and are seeking the intervention by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the interest of the nation. The state tourism department and the industry say the prices have been increased just when the peak season for visiting the valley was approaching. "It is unfortunate that airlines are increasing air fares to and fro Kashmir valley. As a result of this, the tourism industry will suffer," Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Director Farooq Shah said here. He said the air fares were "substantially high" and continuing to rise, even touching Rs 17,000 one way between Delhi and Srinagar which was more than that between Delhi and Malaysia or Singapore.
"The rates cannot be fixed arbitrarily. There should be some ceiling on the fares," he said, adding that the high rates would badly affect tourist flow to the valley during the peak summer season. President of Travel Agents Society of Kashmir Abdul Khaliq Wangnoo alleged that the airlines were taking "undue advantage" of the situation since there is no rail link to Kashmir and the only alternate mode of travel is by bus. "We have only two-three months of peak tourist season but such high rates would badly affect the inflow," he said.
He said he had requested state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take up the issue with the Prime Minister and threatened agitation if some remedial steps were not taken. Nazir Bakshi, chairman of travel bodies of Kashmir, said there should be intervention by the Prime Minister as Kashmir was returning to normal tourism after two decades of turmoil and the high air fares could not be allowed to sabotage that process. "The issue needs sensitive handling. It is in the interest of the nation to keep air fares low so that more people can visit the valley," he said, adding good tourism would highlight the normalcy in the valley. "Making Kashmir unaffordable for travel would have a huge impact," he said. Bakshi suggested that if the airlines wanted to ensure that they do not make losses, they could fix single fares for the whole year instead of making these "exhorbitant" during the peak tourist season.

Srinagar to get 15 Radio Taxis - Mar- 13- 2012

Srinagar, Mar 13: Like other cities of the country, Radio Taxi Service is being introduced in Srinagar with an intent to provide better transport facility to commuters, an official handout said adding a high level meeting in this regard was Tuesday convened by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr Asgar Samoon.
“It was given out that in the first phase, 15 Radio taxies would be arranged and anybody in need can utilize its services by a phone call,” it added.
The meeting was informed that Radio Taxi service is being introduced under SRO 94.
The Divisional Commissioner assured full support from the administration for the transporters who are willing to be part of this scheme.
The meeting deliberated on various aspects of Radio Taxi service schemes.
The meeting was attended by DDC Srinagar, DIG Traffic, RTO Kashmir, Joint Commissioner SMC and representatives of Taxi Association Srinagar.
Sources privy to the meeting, however said, there was little response to the government plans from the taxi owners side as they couldn’t “well understand the benefits or reasons of introducing this system.”
“Even though the government is willing to get loan sanctioned for the radio devices, we are yet to well understand what will be the benefit of installation of the devices,” said a taxi driver adding that he doesn’t want to get “unnecessarily indebted”. “We have already suffered a lot in the past years of turmoil, we don’t want to take any risks,” he and some other taxi owners said.
“Or may be it’s a scheme to benefit some influential transporters,” they alleged adding the government should launch an awareness campaign in this regard prior to taking any final decision.

Tourism Department Monday kick-start a campaign “Preparation for Tourist Season 2012”

Upbeat over the “record” tourist arrivals to Kashmir last year, Tourism Department Monday kick-started a campaign “Preparation for Tourist Season 2012”.
As a first step of the campaign, the department organized a one-day seminar in which officials of the department as well as the tourism traders participated.
Expecting a smooth tourism season ahead, Director Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah said they were hopeful that the number of tourists to Kashmir will cross 20 lakh this year. “Last year 10 lakh tourists visited Kashmir,” he said as per a report in Greaterkashmir by Mukeet Akmali.
Shah on the occasion stressed the need for bringing in professionalism in the sector. “We have worked hard to promote our tourism industry throughout the world. Now it is our time to reap the rewards,” he said.
He said tourists were the real promoters of tourism in the state. “If we deal with them professionally, they will become our promoters and will tell their native people about this place,” Shah said.
Principal Hostel Management on the occasion offered to train people directly dealing with the tourists in order to set good standards in the hospitality sector.
Others who spoke on the occasion included President Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK), President, Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK,) President Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHARA), President Kashmir Hotel and Restaurants Owner Federation (KHAROF), Chairman House Boat Owners Association (HBOA).
